September 24- Selection Coefficient

Δp= S (pq)

S= the selection coefficient. This is used to measure the advantage (or disadvantage) that one allele has over another. (s= 0.02)

p= the frequency of the allele

q= the frequency of 1- p.

Together (pq)= genetic variation

The increase in genetic variation causes a greater change in Δp.

  2. My definitions were Delta P- s.(pq), P is the alleles frequency of A1, Q is allele frequency of A2, and s is the selection coefficient. Our definitions were similar, you made it simple!

  3. Hi Kaelyn!

    I really liked your definitions. You did a great job of explaining the differences between the different variables. Mine were pretty similar. Keep up the good work!
